The Ultimate Mood Board for Your Book Nook this Summer
When I imagine my dream summer, it always starts in a quiet corner – a little space just for me, filled with pages, postcards, pretty things, and paper memories. That’s where the book nook mood board comes in.
You don’t need a full office or library to feel inspired. A corkboard, a bit of wall, the back of a door – anywhere can become your own story-filled canvas. And there’s something incredibly grounding about taking 15 minutes to pin up your mood for the season. Visual magic, no scrolling required.
Here’s how to create a literary mood board that makes your book nook feel like a bookshop window display crossed with a journal entry.
✨ This is the third post in my Bookshop Girl’s Summer Series: Living a Storybook Life — a whimsical seven-part guide to crafting a gentle, bookish summer filled with creativity, nostalgia, and literary charm.

1. Choose a Spot for Your Mood Board That Makes You Smile

Whether it’s above your desk, next to your bed, or above your kettle, find a place where your eyes naturally land during the day.
💭 Amy’s Note: Mine’s above my computer, so I can always look up and feel inspired 🙂
💡 Try This: Cork board – you don’t need anything fancy!
2. Start With Your Summer Reading Mood

Print out mini covers of your TBR, cut out character art, or jot down what you want your summer reads to feel like. Cosy? Escapist? Electric with possibility?
💭 Amy’s Note: I use Canva to make a little “seasonal shelf” collage – then cut it out and pin it with a rose gold clip. Bliss.
3. Layer in Quotes, Postcards & Scraps

Add dimension with bookish quotes, dried flowers, postcards, washi tape, scraps of fabric — anything that feels like summer nostalgia.
💭 Amy’s Note: I love using perfume cards from the chemist — they hold scent for ages and look so chic next to a poem.
💡 Try This: Scrapbooking paper kit – perfect for adding layers to your corkboard
4. Add Your Summer Prompts or Intentions

Use the space to gently anchor your season. A few journaling prompts, a gentle goal, a favourite affirmation – like a vision board made from paper and heart.
💭 Amy’s Note: I wrote “Read barefoot in the grass” on a card and pinned it front and centre. It makes me smile every time I walk past.
5. Let It Grow Over Time

Your board doesn’t have to be perfect on day one. Add to it slowly. Pin memories. Tuck in ticket stubs. Let it evolve like a well-loved book.
💡 Try This: Mini envelopes for memory keeping
