How to Romanticise Your Summer Reading Routine

Reading is already magic — but there’s something about summer that invites us to slow down and make our reading rituals feel a little more romantic, a little more whimsical, and a lot more you.

This post is part of my Summer Reading Lifestyle series, designed to help you escape into stories and create dreamy reading moments all season long. Whether you’re reading during toddler nap time or sneaking a few pages in the garden, here’s how to make every moment feel like a soft, seasonal ritual.

? 1. Create a Ritual You Look Forward To

Romanticise: A lit candle beside an open book, with a soft blanket and dappled morning light.

Start by making reading feel intentional, even if it’s only for 10 minutes. A ritual doesn’t need to be complicated — light a candle, wrap yourself in a blanket, and make a little event of opening your book.

? Amy’s Note: I don’t always get to light candles these days with a toddler around, so when I do, it feels extra special. It signals that this time is mine.

? Try This: This Vintage Bookstore Candle – it blends rich woody chypre notes with soft hints of leather, bergamot, and green leaves. Just enough magic.

? 2. Pair Your Book With a Seasonal Drink

Romanticise: A glass of iced tea with floating mint beside a paperback and straw hat on the grass.

Turn your iced latte or herbal tea into part of the story. Match your drink to your genre (we just did a whole post on that!), or simply use it as a way to slow down.

? Iced chai for cosy fantasy, sparkling elderflower for light romance, or a gin & tonic for a sharp thriller.

? Try This: These glass iced tea tumblers here make your drink feel like a summer treat.

? 3. Designate a Cosy Reading Spot

Romanticise: A blanket layered with pillows under a tree, book open, breeze in the air.

Find one shady patch outdoors that feels like it could be yours. It doesn’t need to be Pinterest-perfect — just somewhere that feels intentional. A blanket in the garden, a chair on the balcony, a quiet bench in the park.

? Amy’s Note: Even if it’s just a blanket on the grass while my toddler plays, I love having a little nest to curl into with my book.

? Try This: This roll-up picnic blanket here is perfect for garden reading or spontaneous park picnics.

✍️ 4. Make it a Memory

Romanticise: A journal page half-filled with scribbles, beside a book and a pair of sunglasses.

Romanticising reading isn’t just about the moment — it’s about making it linger. Keep a little journal, jot down quotes, track your mood after each book. Or simply snap a photo to save the vibe.

? Ideas: Use washi tape to decorate a reading journal, sketch your favourite cover, or list every book you read under the sun.

? Try This: This reading journal here is perfect for cosy summer note-taking.

✨ Amy’s Note:

Romanticising your summer reading isn’t about making it aesthetic — it’s about making it yours. Whether you read under fairy lights, hide with a thriller during nap time, or sneak chapters with an iced coffee in the garden, it all counts.

Give yourself permission to be the main character. One chapter at a time.
